If you have ever seen the Matrix, you might remember Agent Smith lowering humanity down to the level of a virus. We infect and consume the host (earth) just as a virus infects and consumes its host. It seemed like an insightful comparison – as if there were some hidden evil behind the existance of humanity. FOr awhile it intrigued me.
But now I see past it. If you consider any life form on Earth, it too acts like a virus. Fungii, plants, mammals, fish, etc. Every single life form can be said to infect its host and spread until all resources are gone. This is true of all life. In fact, you could say that A virus copies the way of regular life. Because afterall, viruses are just another form of life. They are just the smallest, most crude example of what life is.
